Blackrock AC 4 mile road race to be dedicated to the late Captain Mark Duffy

This year’s Blackrock AC 4 mile road race will be jointly dedicated to Stephen Carroll and Captain Mark Duffy.

The annual race, which will take place in Blackrock village on Saturday September 23rd, has been dedicated to former local athlete and businessman Stephen Carroll for the last three years since his passing in November 2013.

Now the organisers have decided to also dedicate the race to fellow Blackrock man Captain Mark Duffy, who tragically lost his life earlier this year when Irish Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 116 crashed off the Co Mayo coast.

The winner of this year’s men’s race will receive the Stephen Carroll Memorial Cup while the winner of the women’s race will receive the Captain Mark Duffy Memorial Shield.

Proceeds of race will go to North Louth Hospice, RNLI Clogherhead who are raising funds for a new rescue boat and Blackrock AC.

Further details on how to register for the race will be made available in the coming weeks.
