Candlelit gathering in honour of Mark Duffy to be held in Blackrock this St Patrick’s Day

A short candlelit gathering will take place at the Sundial in Blackrock at 8pm on St Patrick’s Day to give the local community an opportunity to show its solidarity and support for the family, relatives, friends and colleagues of Captain Mark Duffy who is missing in the course of his duty.

Mark Duffy, from Blackrock

Mark, who lives in the village along with wife Hermione and children Esme and Fionn, was on board the Irish Coast Guard’s Rescue 116 chopper which went down off the Co Mayo coast in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

One of his colleagues, Dara Fitzpatrick, was found later that day and later pronounced dead but Mark and two other colleagues are still missing with searches for them continuing today.

The St Patrick’s Day parade in Blackrock has already been cancelled as a mark of respect to Mark and his family at this testing time.
