Darver Castle set for 38 bedroom expansion
Popular local wedding venue Darver Castle is set for an expansion.
The 12th century castle in Readypenny will be expanded over a three year period with 38 additional bedrooms to be built in the existing courtyard.
The bar and civil ceremony room will also be refurbished as part of work announced today
Owners Aidan and Mary Carville, who bought the castle in 1997, say no weddings will be affected by the ongoing work at the venue.
Over the past 20 years Darver Castle has hosted in excess of 2,000 weddings and its wedding business continues to grow each year.
Over the next three years the development plan to upgrade Darver Castle is as following:
- Refurbishment of the civil ceremony room by the end of 2016, which is nearly completed
- Planning permission has been granted for 38 bedrooms which will be constructed in the courtyard during this development phase. This will necessitate the closing of the Grain Store restaurant at the end of September 2016
- The extension of the bar in the main function room by 2018
- Continued enhancement of the wedding gardens
The Carville’s said: “We have been in business for 20 years in Dundalk. During that time we have lovingly restored Darver Castle and we are proud and privileged to have become an integral part of the community. We are excited about the development plans which will serve to further enhance the facilities for our guests. It is our intention to continue to invest in Darver Castle and are now looking forward to the next 20 years.”
