Dundalk Classical Tenor David Martin kicks off 2017 solo singing career with Spirit Store show

Dundalk Classical Tenor, David Martin is a man forging ahead with successful careers in both the music world and with the Irish Army.

The recently promoted Army Sergeant has over the years combined his work with his love of singing, taking on musical projects as his military career has allowed, with both careers seeing him travel the world.

Now, as always, keen to take up a challenge David is also focusing on a solo career while adapting to life alongside his Army promotion.

Featuring a Piano Quintet & Guest Soprano, his first project ‘A Night at the Opera’ will debut in The Spirit Store, Dundalk on Sunday.

Any person who appreciates classical music training in any way shape or form will know the hours of effort that goes into maintaining and caring for that vocal talent.

David’s vocal training began in Dundalk under the tutelage of Geraldine McGee and in the years that followed he successfully competed in various Feis Ceoil. In 1999, having won the Tenor Solo and the Joseph O’Mara Memorial Cup for Operatic Aria in Dublin, he began his studies at the Leinster College of Music and Drama with Dr Veronica Dunne and Jeannie Reddin.

David then went on to complete Il Corso Di Canto E Perfezionamento Lirico in Montalto Ligure in Northern Italy, led by the world famous Ugo Benelli, who said “David has a remarkable sound, and a fantastic vocal range.”

There aren’t many Classical Tenors who combine a successful singing career, a full Army career and a happy family life but David Martin is leading the way.

David realises his good fortune. “I have had some fantastic opportunities over the years. I have performed at so many momentous occasions and locations, in the National Concert Hall and also at the Eucharistic Congress in the RDS. I have also travelled via the Army – Paris, Brussels, Lourdes etc.”

Following his Spirit Store performance, David will be heading to the States for a 43 Date Tour with the Five Irish Tenors, and will be returning hopefully with further Solo Irish Tour dates for 2017.

“It is exciting and I can’t wait to get on the Spirit Store Stage and start a new phase in my musical career.”

‘A Night at the Opera’ with David Martin takes place in The Spirit Store, Sunday January 8th. Tickets priced €15.
