Dundalk come from behind to see off Limerick

DundalkCrest2010Dundalk got their SSE Airtricity League Premier Division up and running after coming from behind to beat Limerick FC 2-1 at Oriel Park last night.

Kurtis Byrne came to the home side’s rescue after climbing off the bench to grab a 77th minute winner to earn Stephen Kenny’s side their first win of the campaign.

After going down 4-1 to neighbours Drogheda Utd the previous week, the Lilywhites made the worst possible start when goalkeeper Peter Cherrie fumbled a Shane Tracy free into his net in the 14th minute.

A Patrick Hoban header four minutes before the break got them back on level terms, however, before Byrne grabbed a late winner – heading into an empty net after Hoban’s initial strike had been saved by the legs of Shane Cusack.

Next up for Dundalk is a trip to The Showgrounds to take on Sligo Rovers on Saturday.

Dundalk: Cherrie; Rossiter (Gannon 64 mins), Gartland, Boyle, Massey; Meenan, Towell, O’Donnell, Horgan (Mountney 89 mins); McMillan (Byrne 70 mins), Hoban.
