Dundalk IT student making good progress in recovery from serious head injuries

The Dundalk IT student who suffered serious head injuries when he was attacked in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, 11 days ago is making good progress according to doctors.

TJ Duffy, a 21-year-old from Ardee who plays GAA with the Sean McDermotts club, was knocked unconscious while trying to protect a friend after a fight broke out on Main Street of Carrickmacross around 3.30am to Sunday April 9th.

TJ, who works in the Louth Arms in Tallanstown, hit his head and immediately blacked out. He was found by a passer-by before being rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda and then on to the Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where he underwent emergency surgery to remove a clot on his brain.

He spent a number of days after that in an induced coma but according to The Irish Daily Mirror, he is now out of the coma and making good progress.

Two men, in their 20s were arrested last week in connection with the attack and both men were later released without charge, while a file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
