Dundalk make winning start to title defence
Dundalk’s bid for three league titles in-a-row got off to a winning start as they ran out 3-1 winners away to Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds last night.
Stephen Kenny’s side got off to a dream start, taking the lead just after the four minute mark. John Mountney’s cross from the right was controlled by Ciaran Kilduff who duly slotted home from close range.
Kilduff then doubled his side’s lead in the 27th minute, racing clear of the Bray defence to slot past Peter Cherrie.
Bray were right back in it on the half hour mark though when a Dean Kelly free kick was deflected past a helpless Gary Rogers.
Dundalk continued to dominate after that and when Bray were reduced to 10 men following a second yellow card for Curtis Murphy, Ronan Finn put the game to bed with a shot from the edge of the area nine minutes from time.
Next up for the Lilywhites is the visit of Finn Harps to Oriel Park on Friday night.
