Commenting afterwards, Fine Gael deputy Fitzpatrick said it was a “vote of confidence” in the area.

He said: “I am delighted for this vote of confidence in Dundalk and County Louth. I would like to thank Irish Life for their commitment to the town. The new Irish Life Customer Service Centre will be located in Finnabair Business Park and will allow the company plenty of room to expand on their current operation.

“Once again Dundalk has demonstrated that it has the infrastructure and workforce to attract major players. I would like to pay tribute to the hard work done by the existing 160 Irish Life staff in Dundalk. It is evident from this expansion that you are doing a first-rate job and are a credit to the town.

“I would also like to thank Dundalk Chamber of Commerce, Louth County Council and the IDA for the work they have put in to make this expansion possible. Your Fine Gael team is working hard to deliver on our commitment to ensure economic prosperity is felt throughout the North-East.”
