Former local priest Fr Jim Shevlin passes away

The death took place on Sarturday of former local priest Very Rev Fr James (Jim) Shevlin at the Mater Hospital in Dublin.

Fr Shevlin, who would have turned 80 on February 25th, was the former CC in Ardee from 1978 to 1994.

He then moved on to become Parish Priest in Kilkerley from 1994 to 1998 before serving as Parist Priest in Dunleer from 1998 to 2006.

He then served as Pastor Emeritus Associate Pastor in Carlingford and Omeath from 2006 to 2014 before becoming a Pastor Emeritus in the same parish from 2014 until his passing.

In his younger days, Fr Shevlin studied at Patrician Brothers in Carrickmacross before joining the Society of African Missions.

Amongst his early appointments from 1962 to 1978 he served two stints in the Archdiocese of Jos in Nigeria and two stints in New York.

His Golden Jubilee in the Priesthood was celebrated on December 11th 2001.

Prior to his passing, Fr Jim had resided at the Village Green in Omeath. His funeral details will be made available later today.
