McMillan strike sends Dundalk seven clear in Sligo
David McMillan’s 13th minute strike saw Dundalk open up a seven point lead at the top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division table courtesy of a 1-0 win away to Sligo Rovers at The Showgrounds last night.
The in-form striker scored the game’s only goal when he tapped home a John Mountney cross following good build-up play involving Patrick McEleney and Ronan Finn.
Just four minutes prior to that Sligo had been reduced to 10 men when Craig Roddan was shown a straight red card for a late tackle on Dundalk’s Daryl Horgan.
Despite the numerical advantage, the visitors failed to add to their lead but they did enough to see off late Sligo pressure to hold out for a valuable three points.
