Patsy Kelly 5k takes place this Saturday

The sixth annual Patsy Kelly 5k will take place in Dundalk this Saturday.

This year’s race is sponsored by Flogas with online registration still open for €15, plus the online fee of €1.05. Registrations on the day will be €20.

There had been fears the race would not proceed this year but now organisers are hoping for their biggest crowd ever.

The annual event, run by the North East Runners club, is organised in memory of local athlete Patsy Kelly who died while out running with friends in January 2010.

Since the first event in 2012, a total of 3,395 people have finished the race with a special prize this year for the 4,000th finisher.

The race gets underway at 6.30 pm at the green on Annaverna Drive in Ard Easmuinn with parking available in DunnesStores and the TSM Factory. Racepacks are being given out tonight from 7.30pm to 9.15pm in the Clan na Gael clubrooms as well as tomorrow from 2pm to 5.30pm.

Showers and refreshments will be available in the Clans hall after the race. The presentation will take place at 7.45pm. There will be plenty of prizes spanning the full field of runners and not just for the fastest runners.

You can register online for the race here.
