Refurbishment work finally gets underway at Woodland Park halting site

Refurbishment work on the Woodland Park halting site finally got underway today, almost four months later than scheduled.

Twenty three families were evicted from the site on the Inner Relief Road back in January on health and safety grounds.

Back in June the council were approved funding of €558,000 to refurbish the site, with the hope being that it would be completed by the end of this month.

However, it is likely to be the New Year before the site is ready for habitation after work on the halting site only commenced today.

Last month it was revealed that the bill for upgrading the site was set to overrun by €123,000 to €681,000.

Of the initial work carried out on the site, €234,000 was spent on removing 1,100 tonnes of domestic waste.

Amongst the plans for Woodland are the facilitation of four permanent bays and 10 transient bays for caravans. It is expected the work will take 12 weeks to complete.
