Teenager injured in attack before Dundalk v Shamrock Rovers game

A teenager suffered head injuries after being attacked on his way to Oriel Park last night to watch Dundalk’s SSE Airtricity League opener against Shamrock Rovers.

The 15-year-old was heading to the game with a friend when he was set upon by a group of adults, believed to be Shamrock Rovers supporters.

After being struck several times, a glass bottle was smashed across his head.

Gardaí assisted in getting the teenager to an ambulance where he received treatment and his head was bandaged up.

The victim’s mother told Talk of the Town: “This group were adults how can they be let down to Dundalk to cause all this trouble it’s a disgrace.”

A picture of the injury caused to her son can be seen above.

Gardaí are investigating the incident. Anyone with any information to share can contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 9335577.
