1,812 births registered in Co Louth last year
There were 1,812 births registered in Co Louth last year.
That’s according to new information from the Central Statistics Office.
This accounted for 2.8% of the 63,897 total number of births in the State last year.
There were more males born in the county last year than females. The CSO recorded 949 males being born, compared with 863 females.
The average age of a mother when her child was born in Louth was 31.8 while first-time mums were 29.4
There were 46 of the births registered to mothers under 20, 188 to those aged 20-24, 406 to those aged 25-29, 651 to those aged 30-34, 415 to those aged 35-39 and 106 to those aged 40 and over.
Of the 1,812 babies born in Louth last year, 992 were to parents who were married or in civil partnerships. This equated to 54.7%. The remaining 820 were to unmarried couples although just over half of these (471) resided at the same address.
Only Limerick City (47%), Waterford City (51%) Cork City (51.6%), South Tipperary (53.2%) and Wexford (54%) had a lower percentage of children born to married couples than Louth.
