299 animals put down in Louth in the last five years

A total of 299 animals were put down by the Louth County Council Animal Compound at Whiterath in Dromiskin over the last five years.

According to LMFM, the majority were put down due to their aggressive nature which made them unsafe to rehome.

The remainder were mainly put down due to illness.

The local radio station also revealed that since 2011 dog warden services have cost the council €920,000, while revenue from the service amounts to €609,000. This has resulted in a shortfall of €311,000.
