83 women from Louth travelled to the UK for an abortion last year
A total of 83 women from Co Louth travelled to the UK last year for an abortion.
That’s according to new figures from the Department of Health in the UK.
The Louth figure, which was the eighth highest in the country, represented 3% of the 3,265 women in total who travelled to the UK seeking a termination in 2016.
The figure for Louth may even be higher given that 520 women did not state a county of residence on their form when undergoing the procedure.
While still high, the figure of women travelling to the UK from Louth for an abortion is down on the figure of 94 from 2015.
It was up on the 76 who made the journey in 2014 but down on the 93 and 88 respectively in 2013 and 2012.
