Austrian police fear missing Dundalk IT student may have fallen into canal in Vienna

Police in Austria fear that missing Dundalk IT student Ross Hanlon may have fallen into the city’s canal.

The 21-year-old from Athboy in Co Meath hasn’t been seen or heard from since going missing in Vienna at around 2am on Friday.

The business student at DkIT had travelled to the Austrian capital on a city break following the completion of his college exams and became separated from his two friends during a night out socialising.

Ross was last seen outside Flex nightclub in the Augartenbrücke area of Vienna.

According to a report in The Irish Sun this afternoon police investigating his disappearance have discovered that Ross was seen walking down stairs to the Danube Canal, a tributary of the River Danube.

They are continuing to search the river but told the paper: “It is hard to believe that he is alive now.”

Yesterday a vigil was held at Dundalk IT for Ross.
