Cllr Corrigan seeks clarification on rent arrears figures in Dundalk
Louth County Councillor Edel Corrigan is seeking further clarification on the rent arrears controversy in Dundalk.
Outgoing County Manager Philomena Poole at yesterday’s meeting of the local authority that six tenants were affected by the ongoing investigation.
A staff member was suspended in Dundalk Town Council pending the outcome of an internal inquiry as to why the six tenants were reported to be in arrears despite them having receipts to show they had fully paid up.
One homeowner was told she had arrears of over €3,000 but had receipts to prove that this apparent debt had already been paid.
Cllr Corrigan, who will be looking to retain her council seat for Sinn Féin in the Dundalk-Carlingford constituency in May’s local elections, noted that the council’s rent arrears had dropped by €7,364 in the last month.
She told LMFM: “I asked was this amount in relation to the six cases but I wasn’t given a clear answer in that regard.”
Cllr Corrigan is now seeking further clarification on the matter and will no doubt hope to find an answer prior to the end of the investigation.
