Colm Markey has been elected the new chairman of Louth County Council at its monthly meeting this morning.
The Fine Gael councillor takes over from Labour’s Paul Bell after defeating Sinn Féin’s Joanna Byrne in a vote.
From Togher, Cllr Markey was first elected to Louth County Council in 2009.
Colm is also a former chairman of Louth Leader Partnership and national president of Macra na Feirme.
He is a season ticket holder at Oriel Park and a member of the Naomh Fionbarra GFC club.
This is Cllr Markey’s first time as chairman.
