D’Arcy appointed to EU monitoring team in Turkey
Local Fine Gael Senator Jim D’Arcy will travel to South East Turkey this weekend after being appointed to an EU monitoring team for the Turkish Presidential Election.
The Blackrock man will be asked to ensure that the values enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights are respected during the election.
Turkey has also applied for EU membership and Senator D’Arcy will be asked to report back to the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly.
The election takes place this Sunday, with the former schoolteacher set to be based in the Kurdish region of Turkey, close to the border with Iraq.
