Dundalk-born priest Fr William Murtagh to be laid to rest on Friday

The death has occurred of Dundalk-born priest Very Rev William Murtagh in his 99th year.

Formerly of Francis Street in Dundalk, Fr Murtagh is the former parist priest of Clogherhead.

He passed away peacefully on Tuesday in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital after being cared for in Moorehall Lodge in Ardee.

Fr Willie was a beloved brother of the late Fr Mick Murtagh, May Murphy and Kitty Murtagh, both from Blackrock.

He is deeply regretted by Archbishop Eamon Martin, Cardinal Sean Brady, the priests of the Archdiocese of Armagh, his nieces Anna, Dara and Michelle, his grandniece Clíodhna, grandnephews Ronan and Joseph, nephews-in-law Eamon Laverty and Shane O’Reilly and many friends and parishioners.

He will be reposing at Moorehall Lodge Nursing Home in Ardee from 2pm until 8pm today and from 2pm on Thursday.

Removal on Thursday evening at 5.15pm to the Church of St Michael, Clogherhead, arriving for evening prayer at 6.30pm. Concelebrated Mass will take place on Friday at 12 noon followed by burial in St Dennis Cemetery.
