Dundalk Chamber of Commerce have called for Taoiseach Enda Kenny to appoint a Brexit Minister.
With Britain set to leave the EU in the coming years, this is set to have an impact on Ireland and border areas, in particular, with trade, education and tourism all set to be potentially affected, not to mention commuters and cross border workers.
In its pre-budget submission, Dundalk Chamber said that a Brexit Minister could focus on the fallout of Britain’s decision to leave the EU on Ireland to prevent it impacting on this area and the country as a whole both short term and long term.
The Chamber also called on the Government to find a replacement for eBay when it leaves Dundalk next year.
While most of the 150 jobs expected to be lost are expected to be absorbed into PayPal as part of their expansion plans, the Chamber insists there is a need for a new major employer to come to Dundalk to fill the void lost by the loss of the multi-national to the town.
