Dundalk FC Girls U16s will be hoping to learn from their mistakes after suffering a 2-1 defeat at home to Ashbourne United at Oriel Park at the weekend.

In what was a dress rehearsal for the forthcoming cup final between the two sides, Dundalk couldn’t grind out the win but there was still plenty of positives to take from the game.

Both sides started well with Dundalk taking the lead on 11 minutes when Katie Moran converted a penalty after Beth Hughes had been fouled.

Dundalk continued to have the better of proceedings for the remainder of the first half but couldn’t add to their lead as they went off 1-0 up at the break.

Ashbourne upped their game in the second half and equalised on 53 minutes with a shot from just outside the box.

Both sides battled for the winner after that but it was the Meath side who got it 12 minutes from the end. Despite the defeat there were a lot of positives for Dundalk, who will be hopeful of avenging this defeat in the cup final to get their hands on some silverware.

Dundalk FC Girls U16s: Rachel Mullen, Caoimhe Conroy, Rebecca Lambe Fagin, Katie Moran, Bronagh Mulholland (C), Aoife Byrne, Beth Hughes, Caoimhe Crichton, Emily Johnston, Sophia McCann, Seona Halligan, Kerri Clinton, Ayo Adesanya, Grace Ojo, Louise Johnston, Andrea Stewart.
