Dundalk Girls FC U16s suffered a 2-0 defeat against top of the table Ashbourne in the MGL League at Archerstown at the weekend.

The weather proved a big factor in the game with high winds throughout.

Dundalk played against the wind in the first half and found themselves a goal down after 10 minutes.

The visitors struggled to gain any advantage against the elements after that with Ashbourne benefitting on the half hour mark when the ball bounced in the box before being carried to the net by the wind.

Dundalk pressed for a route back into the game in the second half but the goal their efforts deserved failed to materialise.

The Dundalk girls can take a great deal from this game as they have not played or trained together for the last two weeks with the pre-Junior. They defended well and with some new midfielders playing their first full game they can take a lot of heart from it.

Dundalk: Rachel Mullen, Caoimhe Conroy, Bronagh Mulholland, Rebecca Lambe Fagin, Kerry Ann Darcy, Sophia McCabe, Kerrie Clinton, Beth Hughes, Katie Moran, Caoimhe Crichton, Seona Halligan, Ayo Adesanya
