Dundalk man’s film Nightworld set for US release
A film co-written by Dundalk man Barry Keating is set for release in America after securing a US theatrical release.
Nightworld, which was shot in Bulgaria in 2015 stars Robert Englund, best known as Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare On Elm Street and Jason London, who starred in Dazed and Confused.
The script was written by Barry, from Mount Avenue, and Milan Konjevic, who Barry has previously worked with on the first film he had produced called ‘Nymph’.
Barry described the securing of a US release as “a pretty huge deal” when he spoke to Talk of the Town this week.
“We’ve just secured a US theatrical release, which is a massive deal for a small independent horror movie like this. No release dates yet, but hopefully sometime before the year is out.
“It’s the toughest market in the world to crack and for a small indie movie like ours it’s like winning the lottery.
“For me personally this is a first, and a huge deal. It’s my fifth film and my first US theatrical release. It caps off a great month, because I was nominated for Best Videogame Script for a game I wrote called Steep by the Writers Guild of Ireland for their awards taking place end of June.”
The plot of Nightworld is as follows: “When former LAPD Officer, Brett Irlam takes a job as head of security at an old apartment building in Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia, he soon begins to experience a series of bizarre and terrifying events. Once he begins to delve deep into the building’s sinister history, and investigate it’s shadowy owners and past employees, Brett soon uncovers a malevolent force nestled deep in the bowels of the building in basement that will do anything to be set free into our world.”
