Dundalk IT see off Trinity to set up Sigerson Cup first round tie with DCU
Dundalk IT booked their place in the first round of the Sigerson Cup following a convincing 1-18 to 0-10 preliminary round victory over Trinity College in Santry last night.
Oisin McConville’s side are back in the competition this year for the first time since 2009.
Their prize for overcoming Trinity is a home tie with DCU next Wednesday.
Donal Meegan, Gerard McSorley and Conor Doherty were all on target as DkIT raced into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead.
While Trinity briefly narrowed the gap back to a point courtesy of points from James McGuinness and Dylan Brady, Dundalk kicked on again with a David McGivney goal which he flicked to the net from Shea Hoey’s sideline ensured the visitors were 1-6 to 0-3 ahead.
Further points from Colm Meegan, two from Tadgh McEneaney and McSorley after that ensured McConville’s men held a commanding 1-13 to 0-4 lead at half-time.
Dundalk remained in control on the restart, helped by further points from McEneaney, with any hope of a Trinity revival ended when they had Eoin O’Neill sent off on 52 minutes.
