The Faughart community are hosting a public meeting to ‘save our school’ this Friday night at 9.15pm in the Ramada Hotel on the Armagh Road.

Fears have been expressed over the future of Scoil Naisuinta Bhride in Faughart for some time with fears in the local community that it could close due to an ever dwindling number of students attending it.

In order to highlight the matter, parents boycotted sending their children to school for one day earlier this month.

The Parents’ Association said at the time that concerns they had raised as far back as June 2011 had not been addressed.

Amongst those concerns is the falling number of pupils, which has dropped from over 100 in June 2011 to only 53 currently. This figure is expected to drop again based on the number of new enrolments scheduled for this September.
