Feely’s extra-time goal sends Dundalk packing from EA Sports Cup
Dundalk exited the EA Sports Cup at the first hurdle after going down 1-0 to St Patrick’s Athletic at Oriel Park last night after extra time.
Despite dominating the game, Stephen Kenny’s side could find no way past the cup holders who advanced courtesy of a 114th minute strike from Rory Feely.
Dundalk were dominant throughout with George Poynton going close to breaking the deadlock before half-time when he struck the crossbar.
Goalkeeper Brendan Clarke also made several fine saves before being replaced midway through the second half by Pat Jennings, who did well to keep out a Dane Massey effort in extra-time.
The killer blow came in the 114th minute though when Feely pounced from close range to turn in Conan Byrne’s free kick to earn Pat’s an unlikely victory.
