Former Dundalk midfielder Donal McDermott signs for Swindon Town
Former Dundalk FC midfielder Donal McDermott has signed for Swindon Town on a free transfer from Rochdale.
The 27-year-old spent the second half of the 2014 season at Oriel Park where he played a bit-part role in the club’s first title under Stephen Kenny.
The former Irish underage international initially moved to Salford City and then Ramsbottom Utd before joining Rochdale in May 2015 where he scored three times in 54 appearances.
Now he has joined a Swindon Town side anxious to get back to League One following their relegation to League Two at the end of last season.
McDermott has signed a one-year deal with Lee Power’s side told the Swindon Town website he was anxious to continue making an impression after a successful trial spell.
“I’ve played against the gaffer’s teams before and my last manager at Rochdale knows the gaffer well, so I knew what I was going to get by coming down here,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.
“From the minute the gaffer phoned me it was all about getting promoted and the fact Swindon is in this league makes it obvious that we are going to be doing everything to get promoted and get back to where we need to be.
“I’m an attacking player, I’m aggressive and I want to score and assist as many goals as I can.”
