Funky Feet dancers land 88 medals for Ireland in Los Angeles
There were celebrations for the local Funky Feet team who travelled to Los Angeles to represent Ireland in the World Championships of Performing Arts recently as they returned home with a whopping 88 medals between them.
A group of eight girls also made the grand finale, which was televised on TV in America on Saturday.
Throughout the 13 days in Los Angeles, five well deserving students also received Millennium School scholarships to perform in LA next year.
The team from Funky Feet were only a part of the overall team Ireland, led by local woman Stacey Murnaghan. This comprised of both juniors and seniors from Dundalk, Nenagh and Cork. Between them they are coming home this evening with over 100 medals from the prestigious event.
The girls team consisted of: Lauren Mathews McGuinness, Caitlin Rooney, Caitlin Fee, Ellie Mulligan, Caoimhe Mulligan, Kerri Ann Carr, Kerry McKenna and Aoife Savage.
They placed in many events including:
- Dance contemporary – silver
- Dance hip hop – bronze
- Dance lyrical – silver
- Vocal open – silver
- Vocal world – silver
They won a total of 11 medals each and also qualified for the grand finale which took place on Saturday night.
The other team members were Vanessa Kirk, who won five medals including bronze in the dance hip hop and dance open sections, as well as silver in the vocal rock event.
Lonan Murphy and Ryan Bannon also won a number of awards including silver in the dance hip hop and dance contemporary sections, as well as bronze in the dance open event.
Lonan also won the following individual awards: silver in modelling casual and modelling formal and bronze in the dance open event.
Lonan, Caitlin Rooney, Loren Murnaghan, Kelly Murnaghan and Vanessa Kirk also won scholarships for the Millenium school in LA.
