The Japanese Film Festival will return to Dundalk next week for its 10th year.

The event takes place in An Táin Arts Centre at the Town Hall on Saturday April 21st.

This year there are two very different animated features lined up.

Lu Over the Wall | Saturday 21st April at 6pm | Cert: PG |

Tickets €7 or both films for €10

This family friendly feature, full of music and fun, stars Kai, a loner teenager that moves with his father from Tokyo to the declining fishing town of Hinashi. There, with the help of some new friends and his catchy music, Kai meets a twin tailed mermaid called Lu. But Lu’s friendship with Kai is sure to lead to disaster in a town where local fears and superstitions about the merfolk could place her in danger…

Winner of the top prize at the 2017 Annecy Animation Film Festival Lu Over the Wall, brings a family-friendly feel to the classic tale of the little mermaid who falls in love with a human. Energetic, irreverent and visually riveting, Lu Over the Wall is delightfully and unpredictably feel-good.

The Night is Short, Walk On Girl | Saturday 21st April at 8:30pm | Cert: 15A |

Tickets €7 or both films for €10

During one whirlwind night in Kyoto, female student Otome, aka The Girl with Black Hair, flits from spot to spot, determined to drink the night away. She crosses paths with many eccentric characters, as she parties not just in bars, but also through many other unexpected places.

Winner of the Best Animated Feature prize at the recent Japanese Academy Awards.

Front of House and Marketing Officer for An Táin Arts Centre, Linda, say:  “I’m always excited every year for the Japanese Film Festival. Japan and the many different aspects of its culture is a big passion of mine. We’re so lucky to have these films, which a lot of the time are unattainable, right here on our doorstep!”
