Less young people and more older people living in Louth, according to Census

The number of young children living in Co Louth in the period from 2011 to 2016 fell by 9%, according to new figures.

An analysis of last year’s Census, released today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), shows that there were 9,473 children aged 0-4 years in the county at the time of the Census in April 2016. This was a fall from the 10,411 who were living locally in 2011.

Of this figure the number of boys aged 0-4 fell 9.1% from 5,320 to 4,385 while the number of girls fell 8% from 5,091 to 4,683.

At the other end of the scale the number of people living locally aged 65 and over jumped by 19.3% from 13,477 to 16,077.
