Local heroes to be honoured at Emergency Services Weekend in Dublin next month

Three local heroes will be remembered in a musical tribute in Dublin next month.

Captain Mark Duffy, who was amongst the crew of Irish Coastguard helicopter Rescue 116 when it crashed off the Co Mayo coast, as well as An Garda Síochána members Adrian Donohoe and Tony Golden, who were murdered in the line of duty in this area in January 2013 and October 2015 respectively will be amongst those whose sacrifice is remembered at the Emergency Services weekend in Dublin from September 8th to 10th.

Captain Mark Duffy, from Blackrock in Co Louth, was one of four people who died in the tragic accident last March

The weekend is organised to remember the brave men and women who have devoted their lives to saving others.

Highlights include a concert at the Pro-Cathedral honouring those who died in the line of duty, and a parade, followed by a meet-and-greet session with first responders at Trinity College Dublin.

All frontline, search & rescue, security and voluntary services associated with the emergency services will participate.

The “blue light” weekend is being planned by the Frontline Emergency Security Services Eire Forum.

On Friday night 8th September, a concert will take place at Dublin’s Pro-Cathedral which will involve bands from different services such as the Garda Siochana Band, National Ambulance Pipes & Drums band, Dublin Fire Brigade band and the RTE Philharmonic Orchestra.

On the Saturday, members of the emergency services will participate in a parade from Parnell Square to Trinity College. Over 1,000 personnel took part in the parade last year.

The Health Minister Simon Harris and Mayor of Dublin will attend a Gala Dinner on the Saturday night, while a BBQ and family day takes place on Sunday 10th September.
