Louth hurlers blown away by Wicklow
Louth hurlers went down to a disappointing first defeat of the year after losing out to Wicklow on a 3-14 to 0-6 scoreline in the Kehoe Cup in Arklow yesterday.
Failing to build on the previous week’s win over Fingal, the Wee County trailed by 1-6 to 0-3 at the break with Daniel Staunton scoring the home side’s goal.
Louth struggled for scores throughout with a superb point from Seaghan Connelly before half-time the highlight for them as frees from Paddy Lynch and Liam Dwan made up the rest of their half-time total.
All three of Louth’s second half points were frees from Dwan but Wicklow were able to score with ease – something made easier when Mike Lyons was sent off for a second yellow card offence with 10 minutes to go.
Further goals from Anto Byrne and Staunton stretched Wicklow’s advantage as the clock wore down although with 16 wides they could have won by a bigger margin.
