New Carlingford Lough Cross Border Greenway will be completed by December 2019
The new Carlingford Lough Cross Border Greenway was officially announced this morning with plans for the project to be completed by December 2019.
The new project will see the existing Carlingford to Omeath Greenway, which opened in 2014, extended northwards into Newry City – running parallel to the R173 Newry to Dundalk Link Road.
In total the new stretch of greenway will measure 10.1km and will link with the previously completed Portadown-Newry element resulting in a total length of 52km of cross border greenway along the east coast.
The €3.46 million project is part financed by the European Union’s INTERREG VA Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.
The project was officially unveiled at the Granvue Hotel in Omeath this morning by Louth County Council chairman Cllr Paul Bell and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council chairperson Cllr Roisin Mulgrew.
Various local representatives from both sides of the border were also in attendance, as well as local schoolchildren.
