Paddy Barrett has confirmed his departure from Dundalk FC via his Twitter page this afternoon.

The defender joined the Lilywhites from Galway Utd at the start of the 2015 season, helping the club to a league and cup double that year and another league title in 2016. He also played a pivotal role in last year’s memorable European run, starting in the famous 3-0 win over BATE Borisov.

Barrett started the season just gone as first choice following Andy Doyle’s departure but spent the second half of the season on loan at his home town club Waterford.

Confirming he would not be returning to Oriel Park in 2018, Barrett said: “Thanks to the players and fans an everyone at Dundalk FC for the past few years. Plenty Silverware and European nights that will never be forgotten. Wish you all the best , a great club with great people . Time for change ⚽👏 “
