Parents to boycott sending their children to school in Faughart tomorrow
Parents of children at Scoil Naisuinta Bhride in Faughart will not be sending pupils to school tomorrow as part of a one-day protest aimed at highlighting their ongoing concerns about the school.
The Parents’ Association made the decision to boycott classes at a meeting last Thursday after expressing frustration that concerns they had raised with the Schools Inspectorate, Board of Management and the Department of Education since June 2011 were not being addressed.
Amongst those concerns is the falling number of pupils, which as dropped from over 100 in June 2011 to only 53 currently. This figure is expected to drop again based on the number of new enrolments scheduled for this September.
One of the parents involved in the protest told Talk of the Town that the decision was made to protect the school, which they feel is a vital part of the Faughart community. She added that there were fantastic teachers at the school but said the school must be developed to allow it to grow as required.
