Rampark NS release Healthy Living Cook Book
Rampark National School in Jenkinstown has released a new Healthy Living Cook Book containing 60 recipes.
The origins of the book go back to January 2015 when the school’s Parents and Friends Committee set up a six-week Operation Health Formation programme, promoting healthy eating and exercise.
The programme was aimed at helping children make the right health choices for themselves while keeping things fun and was a huge success having been brilliantly supported by pupils, parents, staff and local businesses.
Throughout the six weeks parents instructed the children in kickboxing, circuits, dance aerobics, Irish dancing and yoga, as well as providing cookery demonstrations and giving talks on nutrition.
When the six weeks were up the school wanted to keep the momentum going so decided to work on a cookbook.
Every family was asked to contribute their favourite recipe, including some treats to keep the balance right, and soon the book came to life.
In total 60 recipes were put forward which are now available from the school as well as Londis in Bellurgan, McCrystal’s in Jenkinstown, Sheelan’s in Riverstown, Barry’s Grange and The Station House, Lordship.
On the book, the school says: “We hope it will inspire every family to make great healthy food choices, and really embed the health benefits that were brought to life with energy and enthusiasm during Operation Health Formation.”
