Still time to register for Darkness Into Light Dundalk
There is still time to register for this year’s Darkness Into Light event which takes place at 4.15am on Saturday morning.
The fundraiser in aid of Pieta House will start and finish at Dundalk IT with a bigger crowd expected than the 2,358 who participated last year.
Anyone who would like to help out in a stewarding capacity is also welcome to attend. You must be over 18 to steward and if you wish to help out in this regard you are asked to arrive at 3.30am.
Unfortunately the organisers have had an issue with t-shirts with many participants who signed up before the May 4th deadline yet to receive theirs.
The local organisers have apologised for this and say it is out of their hands. Anyone who wants one is asked to email DIL@pieta.ie
Organisers have asked that the lack of t-shirts not be allowed to overshadow what is a great event.
They said: “We are also extremely disappointed and do not want tonight to be overshadowed by t-shirts.
“Darkness into Light is more than a tshirt, it’s a movement to fight the stigma of suicide, an event to remember our lost loved ones and an opportunity for us to show support for those people struggling with their mental health.
“Please remember that tonight. We will get your tshirts to you in due course, in the meantime wear last year’s and or something else yellow.
“Please don’t make tonight about tshirts, it’s not about them, it’s so much more important than that.”
Last year 2,400 people took part in the inaugural Dundalk event at DkIT with a massive €60,702 raised – a record amount for a first time venue.
The 5k walk/run takes place at numerous locations around the country and is the main fundraiser for suicide prevention group Pieta House, who aim to have a centre with 100km of everyone in the coming years.
You can still register for the event here.
Registration is €25 for adults with kids aged 6-17 €5 and those under 5 free.
