Top job in BoyleSports stays in the family as Conor Gray named new CEO

The top job in BoyleSports is set to remain within the family.

Talk of the Town reported last month how John Boyle was set to step down as chief executive of the Dundalk-headquartered bookmakers’ firm later this year to take up the role as chairman of the company.

Now it has been revealed that his son-in-law Conor Gray is set to succeed him as BoyleSports’ new chief executive.

Gray joined the company’s Baggot Road Dublin branch as a trainee cashier in 2001 and has worked with the firm for 16 years. In 2003 he moved to the BoyleSports information and media department in Dundalk.

Over the next ten years he took on executive roles in various departments within the company including IT, Trading and Digital.

In 2013 Mr Gray moved to Asia to oversee relationship development work for BoyleSports , before returning to the BoyleSports’ Head Office in January 2014 as chief operating officer (COO).

Commenting on the management change, BoyleSports Executive Chairman John Boyle said: “After 35 years building BoyleSports from one shop into Ireland’s largest independent bookmaker, it would not be possible step back if I were not confident that I was handing the reins to the right person.

“In Conor I am confident I have a successor who can bring not only experience and expertise but also a passion for all things related to bookmaking in general and BoyleSports in particular.”

Hailing from Armagh and an avid GAA fan, Conor is married to John’s daughter Kerry and has two daughters.

Mr Boyle’s daughters Orla and Jenna also hold senior positions within the company.
