Two gardaí injured after being rammed by stolen van

The stolen van crashed into the railings of St Nicholas’ Church

Two gardaí were injured after their patrol car was rammed by a stolen van in Dundalk yesterday afternoon.

It is understood the van rammed the patrol car in the Doolargy Avenue area of Muirhevnamor, before heading in the direction of the town centre where it crashed into the railings of St Nicholas’ Church around 5.30pm.

The driver of the van twice ran towards gardaí armed with a knife before he was finally arrested.

The two gardaí were removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for medical examination although their injuries are not thought to be serious.
